Will Chennai Express Do Good Or Not ! Will SRK Hit On Screen

A super-duper hit from superstar Shah Rukh Khan is long overdue, says the industry. Though his magnetic personality pulls in fans for each of his films, they were not enough to make his last few films blockbusters. Now trade pundits are hoping that "Chennai Express" would taste box-office success and boost King Khan's fluctuating fortunes.
Shah Rukh has pulled out all stops to make this one a hit - from onground promotions across states, special appearances on the small screen, having the film's music played in restrooms of multiplexes and releasing it on an occasion as holy as Eid on Friday - King Khan has steered "Chennai Express" around all the right quarters.

"'Chennai Express' is a comedy film with a love story, but it's definitely not like 'Kuch Kuch Hota Hai' or 'Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge. It's a family entertainer. There's a little action too," SRK stated recently.

YEH JAWAANI HAI DEEWANI REVIEW

YEH JAWAANI HAI DEEWANI REVIEW

Review By Komal Nahta
Dharma Productions and UTV Motion Pictures’ Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani (UA) is a love story of two people as different from one another as cheese from chalk. Kabir Thapar alias Bunny (Ranbir Kapoor) is a carefree young man raring to go. He likes adventure in his life and dreams of roaming the whole world. He wears his heart on his sleeve but doesn’t believe in the institution of marriage. He lives with his father (Farooque Shaikh) and stepmother (Tanvi Azmi). His best friends are Avi (Aditya Roy Kapur) and Aditi (Kalki Koechlin) who are as fun-loving as him. Aditi loves Avi who is probably not even aware of this. Avi is also romantic at heart and loves to chase girls. The three are due to undertake a trekking trip to Manali as part of a larger group. Naina Talwar (Deepika Padukone), a serious and studious girl who used to study in the same school and class as Bunny and who is now studying medicine, joins him, Aditi and Avi on the trip as she needs a break from her studies.
Slowly but surely, Bunny and Naina grow very fond of each other during the trip even though they have almost nothing in common. Naina learns to live life to the fullest in his company. Just as she is, one day, about to confess to Bunny that she has begun to love him, the three friends get to know that Bunny has got a scholarship to study journalism in a university in Chicago. Since Bunny is a detached kind of person who would do anything to roam the world, he seizes this opportunity and leaves for Chicago. He gets busy in his world – first with his studies, and then, with his job. He keeps in touch with Avi and Aditi but only when he gets time from his busy schedule.
After eight years, he comes to India to attend Aditi’s marriage with a rich man, Taran (Kunal Roy Kapur). He meets Naina again and the old sparks are re-ignited, this time not just from Naina’s side but also from Bunny’s side. However, Naina holds herself back because she knows, Bunny’s dreams would keep him on the move in different parts of the world always while she, a family person, has her parents and clinic (she is now a doctor) to look after.
Does Naina admit before Bunny that she loves him? Does Bunny also love Naina as much as she loves him? Does he agree to sacrifice his dreams for Naina? Or does Naina chuck away everything and go away with Bunny? Do Bunny and Naina, two diametrically opposite people, live happily together ever after?
Ayan Mukerji’s story is nice and the underlying philosophy of unlike poles attracting each other is brought out beautifully and sensitively. He has penned a screenplay which is fresh, youthful and lively. The camaraderie between the four friends is excellent and their jokes are so fresh that the audience feels completely entertained in the first hour of the more-than-two-and-a-half-hour drama. The pace drops a bit thereafter but the dip does not threaten the commercial viability of the film. The twist of Bunny’s scholarship again makes the drama exciting. The post-interval portion gains momentum when Aditi invites Bunny for her destination marriage in Udaipur. The fun and frolic of the wedding celebrations once again keep the viewers thoroughly entertained but alongside that, the romantic (between Bunny and Naina) and emotional (between Bunny and Naina; and between Bunny and Avi) scenes give the drama a new dimension. That there is no melodrama in this film about relationships might disturb some people but the youngsters will lap up this subtle drama more than willingly. The dropping pace of the drama at some places may also come in the way of the cent per cent enjoyment of the film but that would be so in the case of a section of the audience only. The rest will clearly understand that the scripting could not have made the pace faster without sacrificing the romance and emotions to some extent.
In particular, the film has the following brilliantly entertaining parts: the jokes which the friends crack while on their way to Manali and also while they are there; the character of Lara (Evelyn Sharma); the action sequence in Manali; three songs and their extraordinary choreography; the easy-going nature of Bunny; Bunny’s relationship with his father; the scenes of Naina’s mother (Dolly Ahluwalia); the gradual transformation of Naina from being the studious and guarded girl to becoming the fun-loving and lively lady; the slow revelation of the true character of Taran, fiancé of Aditi; the tension between Bunny and Avi when the former returns to India to attend Aditi’s wedding; the wedding celebrations; the emotional turmoil in the lives of Bunny and Naina; the scenes showing the friends wishing each other a happy New Year; and several others.
Dialogues, penned by Hussain Dalal, are veritable gems and greatly contribute to the entertainment and emotional quotient of the drama. The dialogue writer has beautifully aided story and screenplay writer Ayan Mukherji in keeping the script youthful and contemporary.
Ranbir Kapoor is a charmer par excellence. He looks fantastic, acts marvellously and dances splendidly to reach straight into the hearts of the audience. This is yet another award-winning performance from the new superstar. His innocent face and his mature acting are a deadly combination. Deepika Padukone acts wonderfully. Her character has so much range as Naina transforms from the introverted, serious and studious girl to the easy-going and fun loving yet evolved person. Deepika adds a lot of layers to the character of Naina, making it so very interesting. Hers is also an award-worthy performance. Aditya Roy Kapur is just too lovely and extremely natural. He lends excellent support. Kalki Koechlin springs the biggest surprise by delivering a memorable performance. She is first-rate. Kunal Roy Kapur is cute and endearing, besides being very natural. Dolly Ahluwalia (guest appearance) and Evelyn Sharma shine in their respective roles and entertain beautifully. Farooque Shaikh stands out in a brief role. Tanvi Azmi makes her presence felt in a guest appearance. Poorna Jagannathan (as Bunny’s colleague) and Naveen Kaushik (as the trek leader) provide formidable support. Madhuri Dixit sizzles in the ‘Ghaghra’ song with her oh so graceful dance. Rana Daggubati leaves a mark in a cameo appearance. A special word about casting director Nandini Shrikent: she deserves distinction marks for her very effective casting.
Ayan Mukerji’s direction is sensitive and mature. If the light scenes are extremely enjoyable, the serious ones have depth. A special mention must be made about his expertise at leaving things unexplained at one point and then offering an explanation to complete them later. This leads the audience up the wrong path of thinking for a while before the record is finally set right, which gives the viewers a nice feeling. Instances in point: Bunny’s absence at the time of his father’s death, and the reason being explained later; Avi’s frustration with Bunny, and the reason for the same being revealed later; projecting Taran as a loser in the initial part after his introduction, and the gradual revelation of his true self; the unfolding of the relationship Bunny shares with his dad; and several other scenes.
Pritam’s music is such a major asset of the film that it wouldn’t be incorrect to call him a hero of the film. ‘Balam pichkari’ and ‘Badtameez dil’ are already super-hit songs and their pictuisations (both by Remo D’souza) are mind-boggling. ‘Dilliwali girlfriend’ is a good song and its picturisation (by Ganesh Acharya) is okay. The ‘Ghaghra’ song is fast-paced and its picturisation (by Farah Khan) on Madhuri and Ranbir is superb. The ‘Kabira’ song grows on the audience as it comes at different points in the film. ‘Subhanallah’ and ‘Ilaahi’ songs are fair. Amitabh Bhattacharya’s lyrics for all the songs are excellent and the man deserves kudos for that. Pritam’s background music is of a very good standard. V. Manikandan’s cinematography is splendid. The film is visually very rich due to extraordinary camerawork and the rich sets (by Amrita Mahal Nakai and Rajnish Hedao). Akiv Ali’s editing is lovely. Production values are grand.
On the whole, Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani has tremendous entertainment value because of its fine drama, enjoyable humour, great music, lovely star value and fantastic performances. It will have a meritorious run at the box-office and keep the exhibitors very happy. Business in the big cities will be outstanding while it will go on declining as the size of the city decreases. Similarly, business in the good multiplexes will be outstanding while it will be lesser in the lesser multiplexes and in the single-screen cinemas. Overall, it will prove to be a supremely rewarding film for Dharma Productions and a paying proposal for UTV, the all-India distributor. As for the few distributors who have acquired the film for individual circuits, from UTV, they’ve done so at unbelievably high prices, and they will, therefore, make only moderate profits despite the huge merits of the film

Yamla Pagla Deewana 2 Movie Review

Film: Yamla Pagla Deewana 2
Starring: Dharmendra,Sunny Deol,Bobby Deol,Neha Sharma
Director: Sangeeth Sivan
Producer: Sunny Deol
Banner: Sunny Sounds Pvt Ltd,YPD Films Ltd UK
Music: Sharib-Toshi

Since the story fails despite its picturesque setting, the actors try to set all the pre-done wrongs right!

Dharmendra is less feisty this time. Mostly jaded and mellow, his charm doesn’t work at all this time.

Bobby Deol too seems way less energetic than the film’s last edition! Reeking of stale moves, his performance was a low.

Sunny Deol, as the heartwarming Punjabi, is still shattering bones perfectly, even when he is at his drunk worst, and emerges as a show stealer. Punching his performance with his well played subtle comic timing, he is the only one who pitches a worthwhile show.

Besides Sunny Deol, Anupam Kher and Anu Kapoor manage to please us with their endearing screen presence. Anu Kapoor who was last seen in Vicky Donor, manages to do well in the small time frame!

The women, though extremely beautiful lack luster and screen presence. Neha Sharma, is however the better among the two! There is charm in the ladies, especially Kristina Akheeva, which they don’t use adequately and hence, there aren’t memorable!

Final Words About the Movie :- The unconvincing and dragging narrative, though served with judicious dosages of action and humor fails to evoke anything substantial in the audiences. Sunny Deol as the Punjabi version of Rajinikanth is the only satiating element of the film! The antics are indigestibly over the top and fail to keep the audiences engrossed!

I am going with a 2 on 5 for this one. Any day the prequel is a better version and sadly this film couldn’t retain any good from its last edition.

Fukrey Movie Review by Komal Nahta

Cast: Pulkit Samrat, Manjot Singh, Ali Fazal, Priya Anand, Richa Chadda, Vishakha Singh

Directed by: Mrighdeep Singh Lamba

Review by: Komal Nahta

Star Ratings:  * * * 1/2 ( 3.5 Stars )

Business Rating : * * *

Excel Entertainment’s Fukrey (UA) is the story of four young boys, all of who try to make fast money. Hunny (Pulkit Samrat) and Choocha (newfind Varun Sharma) are studying in their last year of school and are waiting to go to a prestigious college mainly with the intention of romancing girls. They both are dull in their studies. Choocha has weird dreams which Hunny deciphers in his own style the next morning and arrives at a lucky number. The two then buy lottery tickets in the series of the lucky number so deciphered and invariably end up winning the lottery. The two want to stretch their luck and are on the lookout for a person who can invest big money to fund their dream scheme. They want to make a lot of money as they need it to buy leaked question papers for their final examinations so that they can clear them and ultimately gain admission in the prestigious college.

Hunny and Choocha soon befriend Lali (Manjot Singh) and Zafar (Ali Fazal) who are also in need of money. Zafar has an ailing father for whose treatment he needs a lot of money. As for Lali, he is a weak student who also dreams of going to the same prestigious college to teach his ex-girlfriend, Shalu (Divya Phadnis), a lesson. His erstwhile girlfriend, he feels, has ditched him because she studies in the prestigious college and has made new friends there. Lali needs money to get admission in that college by unfair means.

Aiding Hunny and Choocha lay their hands on the leaked question papers, and Lali to surreptitiously get admission is Panditji (Pankaj Tripathi), the security guard of the prestigious college.

Panditji introduces the four boys to Bholi Punjaban (Richa Chaddha), a dangerous young lady who runs a brothel and supplies girls to ministers and others. She agrees to invest money in the dream-lottery scheme, described by the boys as fail-safe, and share the profits with the foursome. But she is clear that she would want her money back under any circumstances. As security deposit, therefore, she takes the property papers of the restaurant run by Lali’s father (Majinder Singh P. Kareer). Calamity strikes when the boys go wrong and don’t win the lottery. Since Bholi Punjaban’s investment was huge, she asks them to sell drugs for her at a rave party in progress. The four boys have no choice but to agree. Bholi Punjaban asks three of them to go with the drugs while asking Choocha to stay back with her.

Things go terribly wrong when there is a police raid at the rave party. Lali gets caught by the police after a long chase but the unsold drugs he was carrying can’t be found on his body.

Bholi Punjaban is now breathing fire. What does she do? And what do the four boys do? Why had Bholi Punjaban asked Choocha to stay behind? Where did the drugs which Lali was carrying, disappear?

Vipul Vig’s story may be based on a weird premise (of someone deciphering his friend’s dream to arrive at a lottery number series) but it, nevertheless, has a fun element which makes it entertaining for the audience. Vipul Vig and Mrighdeep Singh Lamba’s screenplay is very funny and has a lot of comic elements and scenes. Of course, the comedy is over the top but it is very entertaining, especially for the

youngsters. In fact, it would not be wrong to say that the comic screenplay is so effective that it evokes laughter right from the start till the very end. Complementing the screenplay just too brilliantly are the dialogues which are also penned by Vipul Vig (with additional dialogues by Mrighdeep Singh Lamba). Of course, one section of the audience may find the comedy loud but the youth will enjoy it.

Even this comedy may have had limited impact had the performances of the actors not been as good as they are. In other words, the actors have heightened the effect of the script with their splendid acting. Pulkit Samrat looks very handsome and acts excellently. He has all that it takes to be a big star because he is a reservoir of talent and extremely easy in front of the camera. Newfind Varun Sharma is extraordinary with his poker-faced comedy. He makes a truly brilliant debut as his innocent looks go very well with the character of Choocha he plays. Manjot Singh shines with his wonderful sense of timing and natural acting. Ali Fazal acts ably. Richa Chaddha is superb as Bholi Punjaban. Her characterisation is lovely and her acting deserves distinction marks. Priya Anand gets limited scope in the role of Priya, girlfriend of Hunny, but she acts well. Vishakha Singh is dignified in the role of Neetu Singh, tuition teacher of Lali and girlfriend of Zafar. Pankaj Tripathi proves yet again that whatever the role, he can do the fullest justice to it. He leaves a fine mark as Panditji. Ashraf ul Haque stands out as Smakiya. Majinder Singh P. Kareer is first-rate as Billa Halwai, father of Lali. Sukhwinder Chahal evokes laughter as the passerby. Shrikant (as minister’s PA), Divya Phadnis (as Shalu), Anurag Arora (as the narcotics officer), Ajay Trehan (as police inspector Khanna), Altaf (as the constable in the car) and Bhagwan Kaskar (as the constable in Neetu Singh’s house) lend formidable support. Special mention must be made of Smarty (the young boy in gurudwara), Raj Sharma (music composer), Pooja Kalra (fat woman in bus), Radha Khandelwal (Bholi Punjaban’s neighbour) and Jatinder Bakshi (jagraata singer).

Mrighdeep Singh Lamba’s direction is praiseworthy. He has made a lovely entertainer and has extracted great work out of his entire cast. Credit to him on two more counts – he does not let the comedy appear contrived even once, and he does not bore the audience by letting the film’s pace become slack. On the minus side, the drama is quite uni-dimensional. Ram Sampath’s music is very appealing. ‘Ambarsariya’, ‘Rabba’, ‘Kar le jugaad’, ‘Beda paar’ and ‘Fukrey’ are interesting and entertaining songs. Munna Dhiman, Vipul Vig and Mrighdeep Singh Lamba’s lyrics are very nice. Choreography (Feroz Khan, Bosco-Caesar and Rajeev Surti) is alright. Ram Sampath’s background music is exceptionally good. K.U. Mohanan’s cinematography is very nice. Action scenes (Parvez-Feroz) are appropriate. Sets (Mukund Gupta) are authentic. Editing (Anand Subaya) is truly sharp.

On the whole, Fukrey is an entertaining and enjoyable fare for the youth. It may have started slow but it is bound to pick up on the strength of positive word of mouth. It will do well in the cities and multiplexes. It must be mentioned here that the investment of the producers in the film (more than Rs. 20 crore) is a bit too high for a film with hardly any face value. Incidentally, not many know the meaning of the word ‘Fukrey’, which has also adversely affected the opening.

Eros International and Colour Yellow Pictures Ltd.’s Raanjhanaa (UA) is a love story. Kundan (K. Dhanush Raja) is a Hindu from South India, settled in Varanasi with his parents. His father (Vipin Sharma) is a temple priest. He has a crush on Zoya, a pretty Muslim girl, since childhood. Even when they are still in school, Kundan expresses his deep love to Zoya (Sonam Kapoor). She doesn’t take him seriously but publicly embraces him when he slits his wrist in a tempo to prove his love for her. All hell breaks loose in Zoya’s house and she is packed off to Aligarh where she studies for some years before getting admission in Delhi’s prestigious JNU College. In JNU College, Zoya meets a firebrand student leader (Abhay Deol) and falls head over heels in love with him. The student leader has political inclinations. He, too, loves Zoya. Meanwhile, Bindiya (Swara Bhaskar) loves Kundan since childhood and is very keen to marry him. She resents the fact that Kundan loves Zoya.

Zoya returns to Varanasi after eight years and Kundan seizes the opportunity to once again reiterate his love for her. All through the eight years, Zoya’s caste-conscious parents, unaware that the boy Zoya had embraced eight years ago was Kundan, continue to be fond of him and make him run errands for them and help them with the household work. Kundan helps Zoya dodge the marriage proposal of a doctor, brought in by her father. Soon, Zoya reveals to Kundan that she is in love with her college pal and would soon marry him. The marriage preparations begin as Zoya has succeeded in convincing her parents that her college friend is her soul mate. Kundan is devastated. He decides to marry Bindiya, that too, on the same day as Zoya’s marriage to her college friend.

As luck would have it, Kundan learns that the college pal Zoya is to get married to is a Hindu pretending to be a Muslim. He spills the beans before Zoya’s parents and the marriage is called off. The prospective bridegroom, Jasjeet, is even beaten up by the loyalists of Zoya’s father. Jasjeet is injured so grievously that his parents take him away to their home town, Jalandhar, where he breathes his last. Here, Kundan’s marriage had not been solemnised as he had reached late for his own wedding.

Zoya is devastated about Jasjeet’s demise but she soon becomes active, once again, in the the political party Jasjeet had formed in Delhi. The party grows from strength to strength. Kundan goes to Delhi and tries to get close to Zoya again, but Zoya is unrelenting as she can’t forgive him for breaking her impending marriage to Jasjeet and for his ultimate death.

So what does Zoya now do? Does she have a change of heart gradually? Or does she seek revenge on Kundan? Does Zoya marry Kundan? Or does Kundan marry Bindiya?

Himanshu Sharma’s story is fresh and has the small-town flavour as it is set in Varanasi. Sharma has penned a screenplay laced with a lot of humour and a dash of emotions. The first half is excellent and the four characters who endear themselves instantly to the audience are the madly-in-love Kundan, the bubbly Zoya, the cutely foul-mouthed Bindiya who pines for Kundan, and Kundan’s bosom pal, Murari

(Mohd. Zeeshan Ayub). The humour in the pre-interval part is so entertaining and enjoyable that the audience has a truly good time. Adding brilliantly to the humour are the dialogues, also penned by Himanshu Sharma.

The film, however, takes a dip after the death of Jasjeet. Writer Himanshu Sharma has given too much importance to the activities of the political outfit, after Jasjeet’s demise, and that portion gets long-winding and boring and it also has class appeal only. However, the scenes involving Murari keep the audience entertained in the second half too. Also, the scenes of Kundan coming to the aid of Zoya and her friends make for interesting viewing. Even though the drama in the second half is a bit boring, the silver lining is that it has many twists and turns and it is so unpredictable that the viewers can’t guess in which direction it is headed. The ending is also equally unpredictable and would shock the audience. Although there would be a section of the audience which may not approve of the ending, it must be said that the ending is the most logical and justified one.

All in all, the story is interesting and quite different from a lot of love stories one has seen while the screenplay has good doses of drama and romance, extraordinary comedy and a bit of emotions too. The dialogues, as mentioned above, are gems and a major highlight of the film. In fact, it would not be incorrect to say that the dialogues are a hero of the film.

K. Dhanush Raja may not have the looks of a traditional Hindi film hero but he suits the character of Kundan wonderfully and he acts with such effortless ease that he comes out with flying colours in his maiden attempt in Bollywood. He is supremely natural and his character, extremely endearing. His simplicity and honesty come to the fore loudly and clearly, adding to the character he plays. His dubbing deserves mention. Sonam Kapoor looks very pretty and plays Zoya beautifully. The character of Zoya has tremendous range and Sonam does full justice to it. Her transition is amazing. Abhay Deol is also very endearing as Jasjeet and comes up with a superb and dignified performance. Mohd. Zeeshan Ayub is outstanding as Murari, and it wouldn’t be an exaggeration to say that he evokes laughter every time he comes on the scene. Swara Bhaskar is first-rate and shines in the role of Bindiya. She gets into the skin of the character of a small-town girl. Kumud Mishra (as Zoya’s father) lends very fine support. Deepika Amin is good as Zoya’s mother. Shilpi Marwah makes her presence felt as Zoya’s friend, Rashmi. Sujata Kumar (as the chief minister) leaves a mark. Vipin Sharma is superb in a brief role as Kundan’s father. Urmilla Sharma (as Kundan’s mother), Rahul Chauhan (as Bindiya’s father), Reena Kumar (as Bindiya’s mother), Ishwak Singh (as Zoya’s groom-to-be), Tejpal Singh (as Jasjeet’s father), Dimple (in the role of Jasjeet’s mother), Gayle Almeida, Pooja Pillai, Rishika Kumar, Sandeep Dixit and Ankita Jha (all as students involved in a group discussion), master Naman Jain (as young Kundan), baby Soniya Ankhlesariya (as young Zoya), baby Payal Bhojwani (as young Bindiya) and master Ansh (as young Murari) lend fantastic support. Others are also very nice.

Aanand L. Rai’s direction is excellent. He has remained true to the script and the characters and has maintained an easy pace. He deserves kudos for extracting such good work from his cast members and also for his perfect casting. A.R. Rahman’s music is melodious and although the music is not super-hit, four songs (‘Banarasiya’, ‘Tum tak’, the title track and ‘Tu mun shudi’) are very appealing. A couple of super-hit songs could’ve added a great deal to the love story. However, it must be mentioned that the

songs are bound to grow in popularity. Irshad Kamil’s lyrics are very meaningful. Choreography (Bosco-Caesar) is very eye-pleasing. A.R. Rahman’s background score is outstanding. N. Nataraja Subramanian and Vishal Sinha’s cinematography is wonderful. Tariq Umar Khan’s sets are very appropriate. Javed-Aejaz’s action scenes are nice. Editing (by Hemal Kothari) is sharp.

On the whole, Raanjhanaa is an interesting, entertaining and a fairly different love story and will do very well at the ticket windows. It is like heady wine and its effect will only grow. Dhanush will be loved in the film. Although the total investment in the film is on the higher side (Rs. 28 crore), the film will definitely prove to be a paying proposal as around 55% of the investment has been already been recovered from sale of satellite and music rights.

Released on 21-6-’13 at Regal (daily 2 shows), Eros (daily 3 shows), New Excelsior (daily 3 shows) and other cinemas of Bombay by Eros International. Publicity: very good. Opening: fair. .......Also released all over. Opening was fair at places, low at others and good at some places. A jump in collections was noticed at many places as the day progressed.

LOOTERA MOVIE REVIEW

Film: Lootera
Starring: Ranveer Singh,Sonakshi Sinha,Vikrant Massey
Director: Vikramaditya Motwane
Producer: Anurag Kashyap,Vikramaditya Motwane,Vikas Bahl,Mad
Banner: Balaji Motion Pictures,Phantom Productions
Music: Amit Trivedi

 LOOTERA REVIEW BY SAMEER VALECHA
Synopsis: Varun [Ranveer] arrives in Manikpur. He impresses the zamindar and his family, especially his daughter Pakhi [Sonakshi], who finds herself drawn towards him. Soon, Varun and Pakhi are involved in a passionate relationship, but Varun disappears. When truth dawns upon Pakhi's father, he suffers a stroke and passes away. Pakhi decides to move on and forget Varun. She arrives in Dalhousie, but as destiny would have it, Varun walks into her life again.

Review: Lootera by Vikramaditya Motwane is loosely based on O. Henry’s short story – The Last Leaf. I read the story after I saw the film. Motwane has brilliantly adapted the wonderful piece of work into a feature film. Also he’s created the principle character of Varun that did not exist in the short story. Motwane himself has done both the Story and Screenplay and he’s done a commendable job at both.
Stories like these deserved to be told at a wider scale and this one has exactly done that. The pace of the film was really very slow, but being this film set in 1952-53, and moreover it being a Romantic mellow drama, it was enjoyable. Dialogues written by Anurag Kashyap and Bhavani Iyer were all right.

Vikramaditya Motwane gave us Udaan in 2010, which was a masterpiece and is one of my favourite films. Lootera just takes him a few steps ahead as a Director. Each and every frame of Lootera, reflects love, emotions, and the superb chemistry between the couple. Lootera celebrates the journey of love and tragedy that entails with it.

Music and Background Score, both are done by Amit Trivedi. Music was good to average. My only pick from the album would be Main Sawaar Loon. The point of discussion here can be the background score. In a slow film like this, background score has a great importance and during the scond half you start to feel the background score as another character in the film.

Ranveer Singh as an actor has done a job that is no less than – BRILLIANT. In just his 3rd film, he’s shown how good he is as an actor. He has a certain charm, and he mesmerizes you with that. But still with films to come, I am sure he can even do better. Sonakshi Sinha has also done a convincing job and the amount of screen space she’s got this time is equal to her 3 films – Dabangg + Rowdy Rathore + Joker. She has got a first real platform to showcase her talent as an actress and she’s just done that.
Although Ranveer and Sonakshi just stole the show with their chemistry and performances, supporting cast was also no less. Actors like Arif Zakaria and Adil Hussain have also given noticeable performances. Divya Dutta was good in a short cameo. The other cast that includes Barun Chanda, Shirin Guha and Vikrant Massey has all done a good job.

Final Say: Lootera, is a film which can be enjoyed only and if watched with patience. The story is brilliant and has a deeper meaning into it and is backed by superb performances and chemistry between Ranveer and Sonakshi. Stories like these need to be told in more numbers and at a larger level.

A handful of films sprint that extra mile beyond providing meager entertainment to its spectators. BHAAG MILKHA BHAAG is one such cinematic experience. However, director Mehra and writer Prasoon Joshi encompass pertinent episodes/chapters from the icon's life and create a film that makes you salute the sportsperson, besides evoking the spirit of nationalism in the spectator. On the whole, BHAAG MILKHA BHAAG is sure to win accolades, admiration, respect and esteem, besides emerging as a champ. Reserve the applause for Milkha Singh and the team behind BHAAG MILKHA BHAAG. Give it a standing ovation!

He ran his first race for ek glass doodh. And he never stopped. Untiringly. He ran because it was his religion. 'BMB' traces his scarred childhood, brutalized by India's Partition; followed by penury and petty crimes. .Overall, 'BMB' pulsates with the storyteller's sheer passion all the way to the finish line. While you are on-the-run, pause to watch this one. Note: You will not like this film if in-depth biopics don't appeal to your taste.

I wish I could find any other reason to recommend Mehra’s three-plus hour film that attempts to be an epic, but is really thin in plot and goes in so many different directions before it finally solves the so-called mystery: Why would Milkha Singh not run in Pakistan? Milkha Singh was no doubt an inspiring figure, but the three hours that Guruji takes to walk us through the runner’s story – and that too just 13 years of his life seems way too long. Even a vibrant performance by Akhtar cannot save a film that attempts to be an epic like Richard Attenborough’s Gandhi.

History is created in several ways. One of them is cinema. And if Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra's Bhaag Milkha Bhaag seems like a near-flawless homage to the flying spirit of India's greatest runner. Bhaag Milkha Bhaag is the kind of cinema that doesn't tempt us to share the protagonist's life with any false hopes. We the audience are driven into a desperate urge to share Milkha's life not only because he ran fast, but because he wasn't afraid to stumble, falter and fall. Ironically, this film on Milkha rarely slips up, if ever. I recommend a national holiday for the entire nation to go and see this movie. It makes the other recent high-profile acclaimed films look hopelessly inadequate.

The much anticipated Bhaag Milkha Bhaag is anything but the film that Milkha Singh deserves. The overlong Bhaag Milkha Bhaag seeks to achieve a dramatic heightening of the effect of a champion athlete’s rousing struggle to break free from the traumas of the past and turn adversity to opportunity. In the bargain, it reduces the human saga to a loud, melodramatic and over-wrought tale that overstays its welcome. To describe it in athletics terms, Bhaag Milkha Singh is a 400 metres sprint that feels like a cross-country race. Go for it only if you trust your endurance threshold.

Ratings:2.5/5 Review By: Shubhra Gupta Site:Indian Express
Carefully skirting the tag of a bio-pic, Bhaag Milkha Bhaag manages to tell the story of Milkha Singh, as enacted by Farhan Akhtar, while giving us, tiresomely, all the familiar bells and whistles of a Bollywood entertainer with the naach-gaana, and the rona-dhona.If the film had kept it pared, toning down the trumpets which blare everytime something momentous is about to happen, it would have been a more powerful testament to an all-time sporting great. As it has turned out, Bhaag Milkha Bhaag is more the overlong, overblown Singing-Dancing-Flying Sikh, than just the triumphal, true Flying Sikh.

Ratings:4/5 Review By: Sarita Tanwar Site:DNA
Some lives are made for the big screen. Milkha Singh's certainly is one. It has everything. Throw it all together with the added drama of India vs Pakistan and you have one of the most neglected sports stories of the century. It's a sports tale but don't expect a Chak De! India or a Swades. You will find yourself cheering for Milkha a few times but you wish there was more to cheer for. What to do: If you are in the mood for some intense bio-drama, run to the nearest theatre.

What’s Good: From story, to acting, to screenplay, to direction; this one indeed is picture perfect! What’s Bad: Even if there was something, it was quite easy to miss those glitches! Watch or Not?: Bhaag Milkha Bhaag is one of those rare films which are hard to forget long after you are done with them. This Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra biopic based on the magnetic life of athlete Milkha Singh, is all about pluses that champions the spirit of human living! Watch it for Farhan Akhtar who impeccably replicates the soul of Milkha Singh and leaves you with goosebumps!

Bhaag Milkha Bhaag calls itself a biopic but it never stops feeling like an exaggerated yarn — the creative liberties taken are just ridiculous and expecting anything factually correct goes out the window. In Bhaag Milkha Bhaag literally every single dramatic turn is given the ’80s’ Bollywood and 2000s’ desi soap opera treatment to wrench emotion out of you.

Ratings:3/5 Review By: Daily Bhaskar Site:Dainik Bhaskar
The reality of Milkha Singh's biopic is lost in the overdose of drama that Bollywood so proudly serves on its platter. But after you sit through the dragging first half, the film starts gathering pace with the screen time now consumed more with Milkha's record-breaking achievements on the field than vignettes from his personal life. It is clear that Mehra and his team worked very hard to bring the story of Milkha Singh to the screen. There is a lot of research that went into BMB and the running sequences are quite gripping.

Bollywood is famous for awkward moments between stars and recently the two gorgeous actresses Rani Mukherjee and Katrina Kaif too went through such an embarrassing moment.

According to sources, Katrina Kaif met Rani Mukherjee at an event and while greeting each other with flying kiss she stumbled and almost missed kissing Rani on her lips all thanks to the bewildered Rani’s presence of mind.

Hope Rani Mukherjee and Katrina Kaif’s beau’s do not take this in the wrong sense. And also there will not be a repeat performance of this sort of clumsy kissing any time in near future.
